how many fans does a normal gaming build actually need

my 4000D RS came with fans already in it and I honestly thought that was enough. then I started watching build videos and every single one has like nine or ten fans crammed in

now I can't tell if I'm leaving performance on the table or if these people just like the look. do I actually need to buy more or am I fine leaving it stock

The long standing baseline is about three case fans set up for a clean intake to exhaust path, and yours already ships with fans doing exactly that. Going past three buys less than the videos make it look, and honestly nobody has fresh benchmark numbers proving otherwise. Leave it stock. The only reason to add more later is if you mount a radiator.

To compare case cooling fairly you want standardized fan testing, where they equalize fan count and speed to a set noise level. Everything else is guesswork.
