Everything on my AM5 parts list is locked except the board, and B850 vs X870E won't settle

Question

finally pulling the trigger on retiring my old tuf b550 build. everything on the parts list is basically locked except the board, which is the one thing i keep flip flopping on. every guide i open either says b850 is all you need or points me at some x870e halo board with a price to match. this is a gaming first machine, nothing fancy, so what does the extra money on x870e actually get me in practice

A B850 board is around $150 and all it's guaranteed is a PCIe 5.0 M.2 slot. USB4 and Wi-Fi 7 are optional, common but board-specific so check the sheet. X870E is what mandates the Gen 5 GPU slot and extra USB4. No consumer GPU today needs Gen 5 to hit full performance so the premium is future-proofing. For gaming keep that cash

I run the Taichi and I'll be honest, I paid for headroom I barely touch. No regrets, but I wouldn't talk anyone into it.
